Torchwood: Miracle Day @ 04:17 pm

I've only watched the first two episodes so far, but have enjoyed it. I'm eager to see the next few as soon as *someone* (hint, hint) sets up a viewing party.

Have you been watching it?  How do you feel about "Americanized" Torchwood?

I just cried watching the PBS Pledge Drive for Doctor Who. Thanks Lisa for helping make sure we could watch Doctor Who for 20 years.  You got me to pledge several times, and I'm glad you kept coming back.

May? It's been since MAY?!?!? @ 10:01 am

Well hello Livejournal. Long time no chat. I've peeked in on others' entries a few times, but haven't posted anything here in a really long time. Not a whole lot has changed for me since then, but let's give a rundown:

Stuff about school )
Winter break plans )
Mirella )
Alton )

Well, there's my wrapup. For those of you who I don't interact with elsewhere: How have you been? What has happened in your life over the last 7 or 8 months?

Today is homework and taxes so that tomorrow can be Doctor Who and Abney Park.

Kieran as Darth Vader @ 05:18 pm

Kieran as Darth Vader

Mirella and I attended our first Emerald City Comic Con yesterday. We saw some costumes, bought some buttons and a few Wonder Woman comics, and generally hung out until the Masquerade.
Stan Lee passed right in front of me, I saw Leonard Nimoy and Lou Ferrigno from a distance, and my favorite part was seeing the kids in costume.
This picture is David Ketcherside's son Kieran in a Darth Vader outfit.
I also saw: Diana Vick, Cajun, Rob and Peggy Stewart (and kids), Geoff Gill and Christy Berlemann, Ashley Cook, Riff Millar, Shawn Marier, Michael Montoure, and Jonnalyhn WolfCat. It was crowded enough that I *didn't* see Brian Gant, Don Glover, or Kevin Matthews.

I want to know which phrases have stuck with you from Obama's state of the union adress last night? Good, bad, or indifferent, whether or not you agree, what stands out in your memory?

Current Mood: silly silly

I believe that I have officially found the cure for insomnia: Netflix has the old Doctor Who episodes available to 'watch instantly' on the laptop.  It works EVERY time!

I planted my first tree today. It feels monumental.*

Hello, pretty little cherry tree. I can see you out my front window. I hope you make beautiful blossoms this spring. I know that you won't make fruit for a couple years yet, and I'm okay with that. I still am really happy to have you in my life. Let's be friends for a long, long time. :0)

*I've never in my life been somewhere long enough to feel like that was an appropriate thing to do. I went to ten schools before I was in the ninth grade, and I did not go to kindergarten.

Displaying my ignorance of media @ 08:27 pm

A few years ago, Sean introduced me to this great little song by some geeky European guy. I was instantly hooked: loved it right away, even though I couldn't understand the words. Within a year, I heard some of the local Russian immigrants playing the song in their little racing cars.

Lately I've been hearing some songs in English on C89 that reminded me a lot of the song. Then Mirella was listening to Pandora on her new laptop (Christmas present) and I asked her what one of the more catchy songs was called. "It's by that guy you like from Sweden. You know, Basshunter."

I've relistened to the original version of Boten Anna, and it still is the best. The newer english version ("Now you're gone") ruined the story and neutered the song, but it's still catchy. I would rather have the original, so I looked it up on Amazon. I can still get the original imported to my home: for a mere $229.43 (plus shipping). Urgh.

No wonder people pirate mp3 versions.

I should be able to access my final grades for the quarter tomorrow. Quite a few folks that I know who are going to other schools are talking about their grades today, which is making me feel jealous. However, I'm very hopeful that I'll have really good grades to brag about tomorrow. Not knowing yet is making me feel like I'm not really "done".
